Sprint plans to enlarge its US WiMax network by 17 new markets by the end of this year. This isn’t their first 4G-spreading announcement as Atlanta, Portland and Vegas are expected to be WiMax-covered by the end of this month.
To mention some of the markets included in this step of the WiMax spreading plan, here are some areas: Bellingham (Washington), Maui (Hawaii), Boise (Idaho), Greensboro and Raleigh in North Carolina, Wichita Falls in Texas, Salem (Oregon), Corpus Christi, Midland-Odessa, San Antonio and Austin.
The next step set for 2010 will be adding more markets to the 4G Network, including Boston, New York, Washington, D.C, San Francisco and Houston. Sprint is supported in this approach by Clearwire, that is providing the physical infrastructure. 4G (WiMax or LTE) is not fundamentally different from 3G, like the 3G connectivity is different from 2G, but it brings high download and upload speeds (10 Mbps download, 3.6 Mbps upload) thanks to the new modulation methods and techniques.
