Orange Gets 3G License in Jordan

logo_orangeOrange Jordan has just managed to get the 3G license for the country, that’ll last for 15 years. The company paid $70.5 million for it and received exclusive rights to this frequency block one year from the launch of the network, according to the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission in Jordan.

After the one year period, other operators will be able to bid for the usage rights of this network. Orange Jordan has already worked on the needed infrastructure and should launch its first 3G services in the area within 6 months.

There were about 5.5 million mobile phone users in Jordan at the end of Q1 2009, meaning that the mobile telecom penetration rate has reached 87%.
