China Mobile is Indeed Launching a Dell Phone Known as Ophone mini3i

We’ve mentioned in an article yesterday the possibility of this happening and it seems that China Mobile has finally won the battle against China Unicom for Dell’s phone. It was first rumored that Android was the OS for this handset, dispelled later and then we supposed that Windows Mobile would be the true OS of choice.

It seems that the first assumption was the real one after all, in spite of the display dimensions.

So the new Android-powered device will be called Ophone mini3i and is planned for launch on August 17th as China Mobile themselves announced, together with their MobileMarket platform, a service resembling AppStore.

They hope that the newly created Ohpone brand will also be used by other vendors, like Lenovo and Dopod (HTC). Because all Ophones will support only TD-SCDMA, which stands for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access and is the Chinese version of 3G, it will be very difficult to make these phones available outside China.
