Sprint launches a new Android handset called Samsung Moment that is none else than the rumored InstinctQ. Sprint will release it on the 1st of November and you will be able to purchase it for $179.99 on a 2-year agreement and that’s with $50 instant savings and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Before getting this device you must go through a pre-registration process that started yesterday.

The specs are pretty heavy as this device is equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2 inch AMOLED display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth plus internal memory expandable via microSD up to 32 GB.

We must mention that this handset is EV-DO Rev. A capable and the tasks are performed by a 800 MHz processor. We look forward to find out new official details about this smartphone.

Sprint has just revealed details regarding LG Lotus 2, the follow-up to a pretty popular messaging phone, the LG Lotus. Expect the phone to drop in January 2010 and its most interesting feature is surely the external touchscreen display, accompanied by the square shape of the device.

LG Lotus 2 features the same QWERTY keyboard that we saw on the first Lotus and its specs sheet also includes a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 32GB and a camera above the external display.

Sprint will launch Palm Pixi sooner than expected, so all interested should stay tuned. Boy Genius Report claims that this handset will hit the market no later than the 20th of October and it appears that it will be available through the Sprint stores and via Best Buy.

Pixi will come with webOS 1.2 and what’s for sure it’s that it will not escape the comparison with its bigger brother Palm Pre. Designed with a thin Centro-style form factor, Pixi can be thought as a cheaper version of the Pre and I’m sure it will have its share of fans.

Sprint finally announced its long-awaited handset called Samsung Instinct HD. The first news about this device dates from last month and it was provided by Best Buy, but since then a lot of information about this phone has reached the media. When Sprint mentioned this smartphone in a a letter addressed to Premier customers two weeks ago, it became clear the fact that the official announcement wasn’t far.

The specs are pretty impressive, the handset being equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, haptic feedback, a 3.2 inch touchscreen and a proximity sensor plus an Ambient Light Sensor. The device also features an accelerometer, HD video recording capabilities plus HD video playback through a TV-out port and it comes with the latest Opera Mobile 9.7 browser.

You will be able to purchase this phone starting 27th of September via Best Buy and starting the 11th of October via Sprint channels. The device’s price is $249.99 after a mail-in rebate of $100 that is automatically available at Best Buy. Another thing that must be mentioned is the fact that this offer comes with a 2-year agreement.

Sprint has barely announced its first Android phone, HTC Hero and it’s already capitalising on the initiative by adding support for Android on its Developer Website. The latter now provides tools for developers working with the following platforms: Java ME, Windows Mobile, webOS and BlackBerry.

If you have a look at Sprint’s Android Developer web page, you’ll get all the info you need about the carrier’s Android-based devices and an opportunity to create and test apps for Google’s OS. In case you’re interested, there’s also a Sprint Open Developer Conference, held between October 26 and 28 in Santa Clara, California and including Android sessions.

We remind you that HTC Hero hits Sprint on October 11, for $179.99, on contract, quite a bargain compared to any other hot smartphone. Sprint will also release another Android phone this year, Samsung InstinctQ M900, recently approved by the FCC.

T-Mobile USA might merge with Sprint, through a Deutsche Telekom buyout of the American carrier, or so claim the latest rumours, quite scary for AT&T and Verizon, if you ask me. The resulting giant would have a huge offer of Android devices in its portofolio, certainly generating enough interest to compete with its NA rivals.

If Deutsche Telekom swallows Sprint Nextel, the resulting company will become greater than AT&T and thus be considered the second largest mobile operator in the States.

In case this transaction takies place, Sprint’s CDMA network would probably be converted to GSM, so this would change the services and setting on ALL of the carrier’s current devices, a huge task for any operator in the world and also associated with huge costs.

Sprint’s getting ready to grab a big piece of the WiMAX pie, by launching an Android smartphone in 2010, or so claim the latest rumours. Word has it that this handset will support both 4G and 3G connectivity.

We also learn that the phone will be able to switch from WiMAX to EV-DO at any time, just like the current CDMA handset can use both 1xRTT and EV-DO connectivity. We’re wondering what OS the new smartphone will run, while analysts suggest that it’ll be Android, with Samsung as the device’s manufacturer.

The handset’s launch is scheduled to take place when Clearwire reaches the 100 million subscriber limit in the US, so that means around the end of 2010.
