Orange has just been confirmed NOT to sell HTC HD2, which is quite a strange decision, specially since T-Mobile and Vodafone will be selling the smartphone, as well as O2 and probably 3. This info was made available via Twitter, by Orange official Conor Maples who claims that the carrier “won’t be ranging the device”.

Could this mean that Orange intends to let the sales of hot smartphones like Touch 3G, Toshiba TG01 and Touch Pro2 increase and not cannibalize them by launching HTC HD2?

Right now, Orange also sells Android phones like Hero and Tatoo, but the real reason for getting HD2 in any carrier’s portofolio at some point is the fact that this is probably the only device with 100% support for Windows Mobile 7.

Orange UK and Verizon Wireless are preparing two hot Motorola Android phones for this month, Moto Dext and Sholes, the latter being dubbed Droid or Tao. Orange UK will launch Motorola Dext on October 7, while Verizon will make Sholes available starting October 30.

We remind you that Moto Dext is the European version of Motorola Cliq, that will be available in the US via T-Mobile, with pre-sale starting on October 19. Dext is available for free, if you choose a 24 month contract agreement, going for $54.6 per month.

Sholes/ Tao/ Droid will be released at the end of the current month by Verizon and it’ll pack a 3.7 inch touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera, 256MB RAM and 512MB of storage, plus a microSD card slot.

Orange, SFR and Bouygues are preparing to launch LG Eve also called LG GW620 at some point this month and it appears that France isn’t the only country that will get  it. The device in discussion is an affordable Android handset that will be sold for $654 outright and all the agreements and rebates will lower the price to about $100.

LG made some compromises to make this handset suitable for the actual global economic situation. The price was reduced by replacing the WVGA capacitive touchscreen with a HVGA resistive one. The internal memory is 300 MB iand it’s also a weak point, but it can be extended via microSD.

The device also features a 5 row QWERTY keyboard, a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, a 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, Wi-Fi, micro USB 2.0 and FM radio plus a 1500 mAh battery.

Orange will apparently announce an agreement with Apple in the next days in order to sell iPhones in the UK. This offer becomes available once O2′s exclusivity contract comes to an end. This is a part of Apple’s bigger plan of raising their sales by offering iPhone to several new carriers in countries where sales were already high.

Orange was rumoured to sign a deal with Apple but they refused to comment upon this agreement. Talking about the possible merger between Orange and T-Mobile that could create UK’s largest mobile carrier with 37% of market share, senior executives suggested that they may have a big chance signing the deal with Apple.

Tom Alexander, the current Orange CEO, who will have the same position at the merged company said that he wants this to be a network chosen by many phone vendors.

Orange UK has been selling the HTC Touch Pro2 handset a couple of months ago, but strangely enough the handset managed to vanish from the carrier’s offer. The smartphone was still present on the business shop of Orange UK days ago, but now it’s nowhere to be found. Anyone knows why?

A wmpoweruser tipster talked with Orange Retentions and they admitted to dropping the Touch Pro2, since it’s no longer in the UK operator’s portofolio. No trace of an “Out of stock” message on Orange UK’s site, so we’ll just have to settle with the Windows Mobile sliding QWERTY smartphone being gone…

However, you can still get it via Vodafone or unlocked and keep in mind that it comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, the TouchFLO 3D interface and GPS.

Orange Jordan has just managed to get the 3G license for the country, that’ll last for 15 years. The company paid $70.5 million for it and received exclusive rights to this frequency block one year from the launch of the network, according to the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission in Jordan.

After the one year period, other operators will be able to bid for the usage rights of this network. Orange Jordan has already worked on the needed infrastructure and should launch its first 3G services in the area within 6 months.

There were about 5.5 million mobile phone users in Jordan at the end of Q1 2009, meaning that the mobile telecom penetration rate has reached 87%.

Orange UK didn’t seem to have enough by launching the Toshiba TG01 smartphone, so now rumours have surfaced regarding a possible launch of the freshly leaked HTC Leo, pictured below. No info on the price or launch date yet, but you can find the device’s specs below.

HTC Leo uses a 4.3 inch capacitive display with a WVGA resolution, plus a 1 GHz processor, a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 512MB flash memory. The smartphone runs Windows Mobile 6.5, features 320MB of RAM memory, supports WCDMA/HSPA/GSM/EDGE connectivity and uses a 1230 mAh battery.

The specs list ends with WLAN, a microSD slot, GPS, A-GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and a proximity/ambient light sensor.

Orange has finally confirmed that it’ll be the exclusive carrier of the LG GD910 watchphone, that’ll retail for a painful $1,300. That’s quite a high price, even for a touchscreen 3G watch phone with an elegant design and it’s accompanied by a 12 or 24 month contract.

Announced back in January, LG GD910 is based on a Flash UI and supports HSDPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and comes with a VGA camera with support for videocalling.

The watch phone is water resistant (more or less), supports speech recognition, comes with an MP3 player and a Li-ion battery that provides 2 hours of talk time and 247 hours of standby.
