France Telecom is unsatisfied with the price set by the French government for the country’s fourth 3G license.

The bidding will start at 240 million EUR (about $339 million), a much lower price in France Telecom’s opinion, so they claim they will appeal against it.

It is true that the first three operators had to pay much more for their 3G licenses but we must not forget the fact that the new operator will have to pay an enormous amount of money for publicity and network improvements for being a significant player on the overloaded market.

We expect the license to be given around June 2010, since the deadline for bidding is 29th October. Corporations like Iliad (the parent company of ISP-Free), Virgin Mobile and Egypt’s Orascom Telecom are expected to take part in the bidding. Iliad just confirmed it’s participation.

It must be mentioned that France has three incumbent operators : Orange (47% of the market), SFR – 36 % and Bouygues Telecom – 17%.
